Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get access to HLC Case Manager?
If your committee already uses the app, your chairman invites you from inside the app — you'll receive an email with a magic link. If your committee is new, see "Get started" on the homepage: download the app, tap "New HLC Onboarding" on the login screen, and submit the request.
Is the app free?
Yes. HLC Case Manager is free for every committee. The project is independent and self-funded.
How does a congregation elder submit a case to our HLC?
Each HLC has a unique web registration link that the Chairman or Secretary shares with elders in their territory. The elder fills in a short form on hlccasemanager.org with the patient details, hospital, and urgency. The submission lands directly in the HLC's case queue and is visible to every assigned member, with no extra steps from the committee.
Why does the app ask me to confirm patient consent before I create a case?
Processing health data under GDPR is only lawful with explicit patient consent (Article 9(2)(a)). The app captures that consent in writing — patient name, date, the member who confirmed it, and a link to the privacy policy — so the committee can demonstrate compliance if it's ever asked. Without that affirmation, the app won't let a case through.
Is this published by the Watch Tower Society?
No. HLC Case Manager is an independent project. It is not published, endorsed, or affiliated with the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania or any of its affiliated organisations worldwide.
What is a Hospital Liaison Committee?
A Hospital Liaison Committee (HLC) is a group of Jehovah's Witnesses who support fellow believers in their interactions with medical professionals — particularly around the principled refusal of blood transfusions and the use of bloodless medical alternatives. HLC Case Manager is a tool designed for that committee work.
Can my HLC use this if we already use spreadsheets?
Yes. Most HLCs that adopt the app are moving away from a shared spreadsheet or chat-based workflow. The app replaces the spreadsheet, not the committee — your roles, your hospitals, and your patient relationships stay the same; the coordination gets faster and the audit trail gets automatic.
Is patient data encrypted?
Yes. Patient names, contact details, and medical fields are encrypted at the field level with AES-256-GCM before they leave the device. Each committee holds its own key — we cannot read your data.
Where is patient data hosted?
On Supabase infrastructure inside the European Union. The data never leaves EU jurisdiction. The architecture is GDPR-aligned by design, with a complete timeline of every change on each case visible to assigned members, and a separate server-side audit log of admin events (role transfers, Assistant changes, post-retention case deletions) scoped to Chairman and Secretary.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password" and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link. If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder or contact your chairman.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Use the contact form below to describe the issue or suggestion. Include screenshots if possible, along with your device model and app version (found in Settings).
What platforms are supported?
iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android (phones and tablets). The interface adapts to both phone and tablet form factors — sidebars, layouts, and reading widths change with the screen.
Can I use the app offline?
Yes — for read access. Cases are cached locally so you can read them on a hospital floor with no signal. Edits while offline are blocked rather than queued, so nothing is silently lost; the next time you have signal, you make the change directly.
What languages is the app available in?
English, French, and Spanish. The architecture is single-file per language, so adding another language requires one translation file and no code changes. Write to us if your committee needs a different language.
How do I delete my account and data?
Use the contact form below and mention that you'd like your account deleted. We will process your request and confirm once your account and data have been permanently removed.
